If you receive a traffic ticket in the City of Ann Arbor, it will generally be issued by either the Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD) or the University of Michigan Police Department (UMPD) and the ticket will be filed in the 15th District Court. If you receive a ticket outside the City of Ann Arbor, check the ticket to find out who issued it and which court it was filed in. If you wish to contest the ticket and/or find out about possible reductions, you may consider requesting an Informal Hearing. (See our Informal Hearings Article in the Traffic Section for more information on this process). There is no cost to request a hearing and there are no attorneys involved.
For a detailed explanation of the 15th District Court's process for traffic tickets, including information on fines and driving record points, please visit the court’s website. Other local courts in Washtenaw County where students might have traffic tickets include the 14A District Courts and the 14B District Court. If your ticket was issued outside of Washtenaw County, contact the court listed on the ticket for more information on how to proceed.
